Spencer Howey
Senior Hockey
A standout of a Detroit Country Day Hockey team that has now won back-to-back state championships and captured regional championships in each of his four years at the school, senior Spencer Howey has extended his efforts in high school far beyond the rink. Sporting a 3.61 grade-point average, Howey was selected as the recipient of the team’s Hobey Baker Award, which is designated to players with high character both on and off of the ice. Though his career with Detroit Country Day is wrapping up, Howey plans to continue his athletic endeavors at the collegiate level. Attending Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. — which is ranked as the number one Regional University in the Midwest according to U.S. News & World Report — Howey will join their club hockey team and hopes to form a club golf team as well. Outside of athletics, Howey is planning to major in finance. Strong in mathematics throughout high school, Howey was driven to forge a career in finance after seeing the day-to-day operations of his father’s business. His parents, Bob and Karen, are excited to see what the future holds for Spencer in both athletics and academics.
