Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and the local branch of the American Association of University Women has a perfect gift idea. A spiral-bound cookbook featuring more than 150 recipes featuring good ol’ fashioned home cookin’ is being offered for sale.
The cookbook was printed as a memorial tribute to Downriver native Anna Marie (Nadeau) Blair, who was well-known for her exceptional culinary skills, and is chock full of personal stories and photos and helpful hints.
It can be purchased for $15, and for an extra $3, the book will be sent to the purchaser’s home. To purchase, please make a check out to AAUW Wyandotte-Downriver for $18 per item, with a name and address to which the package is to be delivered. A portion of the proceeds will support the Wyandotte-Downriver AAUW branch in its work to supply scholarships to local undergrads and to foster leadership in young women at college and beyond. Last year, a total of $12,000 in scholarship money was awarded locally.
The AAUW’s next major event will feature U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, the group’s designated 2019 Woman of the Year. A reception will be held to honor her work as a longtime national advocate for women and children at Wayne County Community College District’s Taylor Campus on North Line Road in Taylor from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. The public is cordially invited to attend.
The organization’s 2019 scholarship winners also will be introduced at that time, and a silent auction, including at least one cookbook, will raise money for future awards. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided by the popular Promenade Artisan Foods of Trenton.
