Kimberly Mott, owner of Colors By Kim Day Spa and Salon in Trenton, has initiated a new scholarship this year for a graduating Trenton High School student.

Along with the Downriver Career Technical Consortium Cosmetology program; Pathways to Success, they will provide a $500 scholarship. This was made for the cosmetology industry and the premise that you can do what you love and make a great living.

The Heart of a Trojan Scholarship was birthed from Mott’s own personal story of having to overcome some of life’s most difficult situations, such as growing up in a dysfunctional home, where abuse and addiction were at its roots.

“I started my life after school, with a high school diploma and a cosmetology degree,” Mott said. “I know what it is like to face very difficult, heartbreaking circumstances, but also found such value as working hard to create an amazing life. My life now, I have a beautiful family, in an amazing city, running an extremely successful business. Because of that, I wanted to create a scholarship for those that have overcome their own personal hardships.”

Her philosophy is, do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!

This scholarship is not based merely on a grade-point average — she wanted it to focus on the strength of “The One” that decided to push on despite of the pain. Whether it’s a dysfunction in the family or the loss of a loved one, “The One” that she sees, that has taken life’s hardest lessons and allowed it to be part of their story and allowed to produce in them a drive to have a successful life — this will be the Heart of a Trojan scholarship recipient.
