Several THS German, French and Spanish language students recently were initiated into their respective honor societies.
BY PAM WILCOX
Sixty-seven Trenton High School world language students were initiated into the French, German and Spanish Honor Societies by their teachers in the presence of their families Wednesday, May 8, in the Trenton High School IMC.
Students took part in the candlelight ceremonies, which were conducted in the language they are studying. The ceremonies include chapter descriptions, an oath, and the reason that the languages are important to learn.
The chapter namesakes are Flamenco (Spanish), an expression of the triumph over life’s hardships, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (French), the author of the internationally recognized story Le Petit Prince and Friedrich Wilhelm August Froebel (German), the man who created kindergarten.
The three honor societies are sponsored by the national world language teacher organizations, and are recognized by colleges and universities. Students qualify by earning an A in level two of the language, an overall 3.3 grade-point average, and by demonstrating outstanding character.
Congratulations to the students and their families.
