Students get first-hand look at manufacturing sites

BY BROOKS BLACKLEDGE

National Manufacturing Day was Friday, Oct. 4. Manufacturing Day is a day where students of all ages tour either a higher education site like Eastern Michigan University, or a manufacturing site like the Ford Rouge Plant.

The sixth- and seventh-grade students at Arthurs Middle School had a great opportunity to tour either the Livernois manufacturing site or the Ford Rouge Plant. I went to the Livernois manufacturing site where aluminum parts for various industrial objects are manufactured. These activities were all a part of “Manufacturing Day in the D” (Detroit Manufacturing Day).

In other news at AMS, Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 was also spirit week. Each day had a dress-up theme chosen by the Student Council. Monday was Get up And Go Day, or Pajama Day, Tuesday was Fake An Injury Day, Wednesday was Pink Out Day, Thursday was Decades Day, where you could dress up as if you were from any decade, and Friday was Blue and Gold Day or School Spirit Day.

And on Halloween, everyone wore their costumes to school. October was a great month to be at AMS.

Correspondent Brooks Blackledge is a seventh-grade student at Boyd Arthurs Middle School.
