Gabriel Richard Catholic High School has hosted a multitude of events within the last few weeks. GR held Pioneer Exploration Day on Oct. 23. Pioneer Exploration day is a day where seventh and eighth graders from numerous Catholic schools in the area, such as St. Joseph, St. Pius, and John Paul II, come to visit GR and experience what it is like to be a Pioneer.
Many of these students walked around the school and visited different classrooms. Within these classrooms were many different activities that the prospective students could participate in, such as extracting DNA out of strawberries, building towers out of spaghetti, and playing rounds of Jeopardy. Additionally, Gabriel Richard held its annual Open House on Nov. 14.
Throughout the day, families learned about GR’s many academic and extracurricular programs, and they met a portion of GR’s staff and students.
Gabriel Richard’s Drama Club had several performances of their production of “The Addams Family” between Nov. 5-7. Although the fall musical is over, GR’s Drama Club is already preparing for its next show, the musical “Once Upon A Mattress.” This play is a twist on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea and will be performed during the spring of 2022. Auditions for the spring musical will be open to GR students, alumni and even middle schoolers. These auditions will take place in December.
The boys cross country team made history at GR this season. The team had more invitational wins this year than they have had in the last 10 years combined. In addition, Gabriel Richard had three all-region runners (John Borowicz, John Benko and Alex Meszaros) and the school’s first all-state runner (Alex Meszaros).
GR’s cross country team was runner-up at the Catholic League Championship, and they were regional champions. The boys also had GR’s highest finish ever at the State Final Race where they placed fifth. As fall sports come to a close, Gabriel Richard’s winter sports, including basketball, wrestling, bowling, cheer and pom, are off to a great start.
Gabriel Richard is finishing off the semester and the students are preparing for their finals on Dec. 20, 21 and 22. Christmas Vacation will take place from Dec. 23-Jan. 4. As the year comes to a close and with the spirit of Christmas upon us, the Newspaper Club and all the members of the Gabriel Richard community would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
