24 students compete for Spring Fling King title

On Saturday, March 9, Trenton High School held its second Spring Fling King’s Judging in many years. All of the candidates are chosen by votes from the Senior Class and clubs within the school. Twenty-four boys participated in the fashion show and pageant-style competition.

This year’s theme was Disco Nights; the boys and their escorts kicked off the show with a dance to “Stayin’ Alive,” and the crowd loved it. Following the dance all of the boys lined up backstage to wait for their turn in the informal question portion of the show. All of the candidates were jittery and nervous as they awaited their turn but once they walked onto the stage all of the nerves fell away.

The next part of the show was the fashion portion. Once they had finished answering their question, the boys headed to the dressing room to do a quick change into a tuxedo. President Tuxedo in Southland Mall graciously donated 24 tuxedos for the boys to wear during the show. As they were called to the stage one by one they walked down the catwalk and posed like professional models.

A panel of judges was put together to help decide which of these fine young men would be on the court for Spring Fling 2019. The judges included Janet Stanley, Nichole Long, Chris Crews, Dawn Neubecker, and Judy Oxley.

They were judging the questions based on the quality of their answer, their poise and personality onstage, and their wit. The fashion portion was based on the tuxedo itself as well as their poise and personality.

In the end only six of the boys could be chosen for the Spring Fling Court. The results were Gabe Doree, representing National Honor Society; Jared Williamson, representing Prism; Adam Mazurek, representing Robotics; Ethan Riley, representing the Senior Class; Donny Grocki, representing Band; and Craig Hammond, representing the senior class.

“It was a very fun experience and I am so glad I got to represent the senior class.” Hammond said.

The King will be crowned during the Spring Fling Dance later in the month of March.
