Trenton High School teacher Rebecca Lowe recently was on the receiving end of a special honor provided by state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-23 District).

Lowe was named Trenton February Teacher of the Month as part of a program to honor teachers in the community who consistently go above and beyond for their students.

A science teacher who specializes in STEM and environmental science, Lowe was nominated by a former student who cited her “… dedication to improving the local environment and her commitment to teaching young people about climate change and how they can make a difference in their own community.”

She was described by faculty and students alike as a teacher who is kind, dedicated and works hard to foster a love of science, particularly environmental science, in the students she teaches.

“In the roughly two years since we started our Teacher of the Month program, I’ve never seen such a large and overwhelmingly positive response as we’ve had with Mrs. Lowe,” Camilleri said. “It’s obvious she’s affecting huge amounts of change both in the lives of her students and our broader community. I’m so grateful to have inspiring teachers like her in our Downriver community, and I was incredibly proud to present her with this award.”
