With their parents looking on, Sommer Cavazos (photo at left) and Bailey Wilson sign their college letters last month.
Two Trenton High School volleyball players recently signed their college papers to continue playing their sport at the college level.
Sommer Cavazos dedicated the next four years of her life to Adrian College, a private NCAA Division III school, participating in the MIAA conference, on April 22, where she has received the opportunity to continue her volleyball career. Bailey Wilson signed to play women’s volleyball at Saginaw Valley State University on April 17. SVSU is a Division 2 university located in Saginaw and is a part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Cavazos will be an outside hitter for the Bulldogs, and looks forward to their upcoming season where she will be competing for a starting spot. As for academics, Sommer will be following her dreams of becoming a veterinarian and will be majoring in biochemistry and minoring in business. Sommer was awarded a full-tuition scholarship based on her academics and hard work in the classroom, and was also invited to apply and was accepted into Adrian’s Honors College.
At THS, Sommer was a four-year varsity letter recipient for volleyball where she was also a three-year captain, and was a two-year varsity letter recipient for soccer after she decided to stop playing after her sophomore season. She was also a four-year academic letter recipient, and is an active member in the National Honor Society as well as the National Spanish Honor Society.
Sommer would like to thank her parents for everything they’ve done to help her get to this point in her life and helping her achieve her goals, and her mom for pushing her to try out for volleyball in seventh grade and being her second coach. She would also like to thank everyone that has influenced her life in a positive way including friends, family, teachers, and coaches. Go Bulldogs!
Bailey Wilson is majoring in pre-medical biochemistry in hopes to be a pediatrician after schooling. She started her volleyball career in fourth grade, participating in AAU club teams, moved on to the Arthur’s Middle School volleyball team, then made the varsity team at Trenton High School her sophomore year.
During her high school career, Bailey participated in many activities such as varsity softball, national honor society, spring musicals, marching band, student council vice president, and many clubs such as art club, book club, be the change club, Spanish club, and interact club.
Bailey is very excited to become a Cardinal. She would like to thank her coaches, teammates, friends, and family for all of the support that they have given throughout her volleyball journey. Go cards!
